本专辑是《勇闯天涯》电视节目的第二张配乐专辑。第一张专辑于1995年发行。

《勇闯天涯》（Globe Trekker，美国及加拿大地区播送的节目名称为Pilot Guides，最初的节目名称是Lonely Planet），是一个探险式导游电视节目。因为受到《寂寞星球》（Lonely Planet）旅游导览书籍的啟发，由英国的Pilot Productions公司製作。《勇闯天涯》目前的放送地区已经超过40个国家，横跨6个大陆，中国大陆可以买到翻译引进的Lonely Planet自助旅游导览书籍。市面上也有正版的Global Trekker和Lonely Planet DVD可觅。

这张专辑收录的都是这档在Discovery频道上最受欢迎旅游节目主题曲。七○年代的英国工程师汤尼惠勒与妻子莫莲，在厌倦朝九晚五的生活后，收拾行囊到世界各地旅行，日后回忆起旅行中的点点滴滴，便决定将自己的经验写成书。如今，他们的系列丛书介绍了一百个以上的国家，被旅行者们奉为圣经。澳洲和英国合作的影集《勇闯天涯》将书上的文字以生动的画面呈现出来，成了爱好自助旅行者必看的节目，也是所有渴望「出去走走」的人最喜欢的影集。其中的配乐由多位当今乐坛一流好手担任，在他们的合作下，作品跨越国界，消弭了不同文化间的鸿沟，与画面完美的结合为整体。光是听这些来自各地的声音，都会让人有翱游四海的刺激心情。

勇闯天涯这个节目同时也以独特的主题和背景音乐晓为人知，其中包含大量具有民族音乐元素的纯乐器演奏、downtempo、电子舞曲。多数乐曲是由Ian Ritchie、Michael Conn、Colin Winston-Fletcher、坂本Mako & Jesper Mattsson及Stephen Luscombe & Pandit Dinesh专为此节目设计。

《Music From the Lonely Planet》以地方乐曲(世界音乐)为基底，并注入满满的电子合成乐曲风，因过於迷幻飘渺，刚开始听超不习惯，但这种录製效果顶级的唱片，它的音场宽阔辽远、音效极为优美，而且《Music From the Lonely Planet》明显的有好几个声轨互相重迭，是听越多次发现越多声轨的怪片子。
