Travels is a diverse yet focused emotional ride. Many of the songs use traveling as a metaphor to show the conflict of keeping one's presence vs. dwelling in the past and losing vitality. The focused lyrics contrast with a varied palette of musical colors. Electric and acoustic guitars are divvied out in almost equal proportions to keep things fresh. Producer Tom Brislin (Meatloaf, Yes, The Sea Within) provides elegant arrangements and plenty of vintage synths to bring extra excitement on the journey. Tom Flynn's conversational and intimate vocal performances serve up the lyrics with a folksy directness, growing more endearing with each listen.
