In 1993 Ruby's mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and Ruby joined the New York City Police Department as a means to help support the family financially. Ruby thought she would have to put her dreams on hold but soon realized that the police department could use for a voice like hers.

After six month of rigorous training Ruby received the opportunity to share a more sweeter and softer side of her, that her colleagues had never seen. Ruby sang the national anthem for her police academy graduation held at Madison Square Garden before five thousand attendees. It wasn't before long that Ruby became a house hold name within the New York City Police Department singing the National Anthem from the New York Knicks games at Madison Square Garden to the White House.

In 1995 the White House came calling looking for a singer to sing the national anthem. After a brief audition in which Ruby sang to the organizer of the program over the phone Ruby was chosen to represent police officers throughout the country to sing for the Police Officers Memorial in Washington DC. President Bill Clinton, Mariah Carey, and Tommy Matolla who attended the ceremony that day were not the only one to experience the sweet voice of Ruby Collins but the event was televised nationally via C-Span and the country got to experience the amazing talent of the police officer behind the uniform. Ruby's rendition of "Wind Beneath My Wings" recorded by Bette Midler and her amazing rendition of the National Anthem. There was not a dry eye in the house.

Ruby soon began appearing on various talk shows including the, "Rosie O'Donnel Show," "Oxygen Media", "Positively Black", "Good Day New York" and opened for the Classic 70's group Blue Magic. In 2000 Ruby released her first gospel album on her independent label Senga Music with Producer Tom McConnell selling over 5000 copies to major chains like Virgin Mega, Tower Records, HMV and local record shops. Billboard Magazine said that "Ruby's forte is smooth jazzy pop/gospel amalgam dazzingly reminiscent of Early Robert Flack."

After 911 Ruby decided to follow her passion and pursue her music career. Teaching herself to play piano and guitar, Ruby released "Merry Christmas" a classic piano acoustic Christmas album in 2005. Inspired by her experience over the years she developed her songwriting skills and returned to the studio to release her third album "In My Dreams," an eclectic blend of soul, and folk.

Nobody said the music business is easy but this singer/songwriter is not about to give up. Ruby has just completed her fourth album which is due to be released in 2008 and it is FIRE!!!
