Mortimer is a recognized personality on the Toronto entertainment circuit where he presently resides. This acknowledgement comes from seventeen years of Calypso Spectacular, a radio program he created to tribute old masters and new torches of musical genres emanating from Trinidad & Tobago and the Eastern Caribbean. As a child of St. James & Woodbrook, Mortimer's formative years were spent in the pulse of Trinidad & Tobago culture; and this is his foundation.

In 1984, he was the leader of the Blue Flames, the dance support ensemble of the artist then known as Blue Boy.
