Jonah's Wail

Jonah's Wail

The Jonah Jones heard on this record is not the Jonah Jones of 'muted jazz' and Embers fame, but a lustier, more extroverted player. This session was recorded in the late summer of '54 when Jones had come to Paris as a last-minute replacement for Sidney Bechet at a major jazz festival. He's joined by Bechet, Andre Pesiany, Benoit Quersin, and other excellent French players. This is happy, easy-to-listen-to jazz featuring a consistently fine trumpeter who never lost sight of the essentials of classic Swing style.
