Pillar of Fire

Dale Irvin Thompson was born on April 27, 1961 to parents Irvin and Lavora Thompson at University Hospital across the street from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. Dale was the youngest of four children. By the time he was five years old the family moved to Simi Valley, CA. Dale’s introduction the Christian faith and interest in music began with his mother, Lavora, who played the piano and sang. She introduced piano and violin to all of her four children. Dale began studying the piano and violin at age nine. He was playing violin in church by the age of 10. He became first chair violinist in his junior high school orchestra.

Soon after moving, the family began attending Simi Valley Presbyterian Church where Dale began playing the violin for special music programs. There he was taught the Word of God.

Dale’s father Irvin, although not a musician, was an avid listener, and had an appreciation for the blues, soul, jazz and Gospel music. When Dale was 13 years old his father suggested that he take guitar as a summer school class. After completing the class he began playing guitar and writing songs every chance he got.

Dale graduated from Royal High School in Simi Valley at 16 years of age and began attending USC as a mechanical engineering major. While at USC, he took technical recording courses. After graduating from USC with both a bachelors and master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Dale began building his first studio, with the help of his father whose job was in construction. His dad built an extra room on the house just for a studio, complete with soundproof walls.

Upon graduation from USC Dale began working as an engineer by day and a recording musician by night, writing songs and recording them in his home studio, while continuing to play at Simi Valley Presbyterian Church in the Praise Band.

In 1997 Dale bought a home in Los Angeles. Soon after moving in, he, his brothers, sisters and father built a new recording studio onto his home where his lives today. There he began attending Angeles Mesa Presbyterian Church (AMPC) with Reverend Timm Cyrus as pastor.

In 2001 Dale was married to his beautiful wife Cassandra and they have two daughters, Shawndell and Laura.

Dale and his family are members of Angeles Mesa Presbyterian Church. Dale continues to play bass and lead guitar in the praise band at AMPC and serves as an elder.

Dale’s musical influences are many, including artists in the pop, rock, soul, R&B, gospel, contemporary Christian, jazz, country and classical genres.
