Down-N-Dirty came as a dream… A childhood fantasy to Kenneth “K.B” Baldon back in 1999 after sitting in a live freestyle session on Hiram Clarke’s own 89.1 radio station. “I remember sitting in awe listening to my older cousin Derrick aka Lil’ Dee freestyling back to back with his neighbor Bernard, who was known as Lil’ NARD, with precision on tongue twisting metaphors and similes.” This was shocking to me since for as long as I could remember Derrick stuttered over almost every other word he said. Even though they were doing it for fun in a friend’s studio, from that moment I knew they possessed a talent that they didn’t even notice. “I’m going start my own label and sign you two as my first group!” I said to them as we walked back around the corner to Alkay Blvd. “Whatever you say!” they replied.
