Bruce Nolan is recognized as a master of his instrument. Dale Shepfer, writing in The American Record Guide, has described Nolan's playing style as, "eminently mellow, lyrical, sensitive and restrained."

This album includes the Septet Op. 20 and the Trio arrangement of the Septet by Beethoven Op. 38 transcribed by the composer for Clarinet, Cello and Piano.
Also, another early work by Beethoven, an arrangement of his Trio for Two Oboes and English Horn Op. 87, arranged for Three Clarinets.
