The band Squadran was formed in early winter 1979. By mid summer after gruelling rehearsals they were ready to unleash their awesome display of power and style. The stage is dark and all you hear is the sound of sirens...then this wild eyed blonde guy comes raging across the stage screaming "You Are Under Attack"!!! When you look to the left you will see the intense blue eyes of Randy Young with the wall of sound and guitar showmanship second to none at the time. To Randy`s right is Eric Klaastad. His jazzy yet agressive style adds a completely different side to Squadran unlike the metal bands that folowed that tended to plod along. This leads us to Mike Gandia. He is the driving force behind this assualt with his double bass attack of his own rahther than the old bugga bugga played by others in the genre to come in time. From day 1 Squadran has recieved nothing but rave reviews from the people who came to see them but unfortunately this style of music was unrecognized by the industry and told Squadran to be more commercial or quit...so we quit! Within a year or so later this unrecognized music was the talk of the world because they now called it Heavy Metal. Squadran had been quite ahead of their time and quite possibly was one of the first heavy metal bands in the USA. Squadran was more than the members of the band, is was also the road crew we lovigly call the flight crew. These guys will live in our hearts forever for all they have done for Squadran. Squadran is a memior of time from an age of youth and innocence in 1979 at a time when not many where doing this style of music. This was the best times of most of our lives!!! This is not meant to compete with the over produced, pro toolsed to death, triggered technically manipulated music of our time. This is old fashioned analog recorded hard rock...or heavy metal if you want? This is youth gone wild unrestained by the trapping of life which had yet to come.
