Day 5 is the third full length album from The Hard Way and includes tracks recorded in 2011 with the band's original line-up; Scott Taylor, Dave Hyatt, Elizabeth Yeager & Tim Diedrich and tracks recorded in 2013 with the current lineup after Luke Ogden and Skyler Blake replaced Elizabeth & Tim respectively.
All of the songs on Day 5 were written by Scott Taylor except Stethoscope; co-written with Skyler Blake and Same; co-written with Tim Diedrich.
Day 5 comes hard out of the gates with the battle cry that is Last Stand, the angst within Past the Cuticle and the ennui of Stethoscope when suddenly you're swept into the McCartney-esque All In This Together and find yourself saying, “Yeah, it’s messed up but we’re all in this together and somehow it will be O.K.” Of course, there’s not much time to wax existential as you’re yanked out of your reverie into ‘Doin the Dishes, a blistering track where The Hard Way lets you know how you should really do them.
The last half of the the album is filled with flowing interludes composed by Scott Taylor, and made up, in part, by sections of previously unreleased material that weave the songs together into one beautiful piece, reminiscent of, at times, The Beach Boys, Elliott Smith, Nirvana and Elvis Costello.
